click for larger photo The Glacier Beaugeat on the Arete du Gouter. The green line shows the climb, the red is the descent line. We didn't actually see how high it was beforehand and ended up doing 2100m of climbing which was a bit more than we expected.
click for larger photo The first 500m of vert was up a footpath through the forest. At this point we get to ditch our hiking boots and start skinning.
click for larger photo The long climb up. We are heading for the high point of snow just right of centre frame It looked deceptively close. We ditched our skins and alpine trekkers where the green and red lines separate in the first pic. About 200m further up it looked like we were about half way to the top. It turned out to be another 500m! Should read the map next time.

click for larger photo Ant further on down. The slope started off at 54 degrees but in general was a nice 45, and big and wide, and there was 1600m of it - awesome.
