The Glacier Beaugeat on the Arete du Gouter. The green line shows the climb, the
red is the descent line. We didn't actually see how high it was beforehand and ended
up doing 2100m of climbing which was a bit more than we expected. |
 |
The first 500m of vert was up a footpath through the forest. At this point we get to
ditch our hiking boots and start skinning. |
 |
The long climb up. We are heading for the high point of snow just right of centre frame
It looked deceptively close. We ditched our skins and alpine trekkers where the green and
red lines separate in the first pic. About 200m further up it looked like we were about half way
to the top. It turned out to be another 500m! Should read the map next time. |
 |
Ant a few turns in. In the background you can see the Glacier Rond, the Cosmiques
Couloir and West Couloir on the Aiguille du Midi. |
 |
Ant further on down. The slope started off at 54 degrees but in general was a nice
45, and big and wide, and there was 1600m of it - awesome. |
